Beginners guide to
Downloading from mIRC
Here is a step-by-step tutorial of how to download ALMOST anything off of mirc.  If you don't have mIRC and would like to use it you can download it at http://www.mirc.com

1.  GET CONNECTED

Now you should have a box that is displayed, choose IRC Servers, then choose DalNet (Some people prefer others IRC Servers but I believe the most popular is DalNet .  Then on the box below choose the location that is closest to you. Then below that enter your full name, email, nickname and an alternative nickname.  Then click the Connect to IRC Server button.

Then Once Connected you should receive a message that looks similar to this:

2FINDING CHANNELS

Then using mIRC's toolbar click the icon that looks like a world with a # sign over it

After that you should have a dialog displayed:

Under Match text type what your searching for (ex. movies, appz, etc)
Then Click the button Get List!

Now once you clicked Get List!, depending on your description that you typed in you should recieve a lot of channel names popup.  For example I typed in movies and received over 200 channels.

Now pick a channel you would like to connect to, and double click it.

3Downloading Files
Now here is where it may get a little tricky, but once you get the hang of it its not so bad. :)

Once you get into your channel you may want to see what is available for download.  And there are ways of searching other people's files by typing @find program name here  or if that doesn't work an alternative method is
@locator name of of program here but not all servers support this and not all of them want you to do this either.  So make sure you read the rules if they have some.

OK, now you are connected to a channel and want to know how to download the files your looking for.
You will need to type in !list (please note as not all channels support this either so please read the rules before performing this)

Once you type !list something similar to the picture below should show:

Once shown you will now want to choose which file server you would like to connect to.
To do this you will need to type in other people's fserve's triggers.  For example,  near the bottom
pyscho_burgger's fserver displays the triggers:  !random_digimon & !all_my_anime & !my_movies

Each trigger on his fserver is kind of a description of what is on each one, granted not all triggers are descriptions of what they say, but usually they are.

Then type in their channel !TheTriggername here

then you should get a dialog displayed like this:

Click Chat!

Now you should be in that person's fserve and get something like this:

Now your gonna have to know a few commands here.  If you ever get confused you can usually
type help in the fserver and get the help you need

Now  then type dir to display the directories contents

then click cd directory name to change into a different directory

Then to get that file type get nameoffile

Please note that you will not get your file immediately you will probably have to wait quite a few queues till you get your file, to see how many queues there are type queues

and to see how many sends are in progress type sends

Also note you will not be able to stay on a person fserver forever so if idle for a few minutes you
will probably see a message that says: Closing Idle connection in 30 seconds...  if you don't respond at all within 30 seconds your session will be closed

The Finishing Touches

As your file queues, you will want to leave mIRC on for the time being in which case you will need to specify some DCC options.

To do this go to DCC >> options

Under On Send request click Auto-get file
and under auto-get and file exists its a good idea to put it on overwrite
this is just my preference however because i have resumed files that were
supposedly the same but became corrupt when full downloaded.  Then Click OK.

Well I hope I got your feet wet to downloading off mIRC...ENJOY!
